About the Prince Edward Theatre

Home to MJ the Musical, the Prince Edward Theatre is one of London’s most iconic West End venues. Designed by architect Edward A. Stone (who also created the Piccadilly Theatre) and first opened in 1928, the theatre originally showcased lavish décor by Marc-Henri Levy and Gaston Laverdet, making it a success in both design and function.

Over the decades, the building has worn many hats. In 1935, it transformed into a dance and cabaret hall called the London Casino. During WWII, it became the Queensberry All Services Club for the armed forces, before returning to its casino roots after the war. By 1954, it was reinvented as a cinema under the name Casino Cinerama Theatre.

The Prince Edward Theatre came full circle in 1978, reopening as a live theatre with the world premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s legendary musical Evita. Since then, it has staged blockbuster productions including Mary Poppins (after a major refurbishment in 2004), Miss Saigon, Aladdin, and now the spectacular MJ the Musical.
